Marilyn
Weiss
Marilyn Weiss is a mixed media
artist who works with the National Association of Women artists, the
Contemporary Artist Guild, along with other organizations for contemporary
art. Weiss mainly works with painting,
printmaking, or paper art. Within these
mediums, she creates collages using found objects such as fabric, photocopies,
and pieces of books. The subject matter
that Marilyn Weiss focuses on is a feminine theme. She frequently uses imagery of the female
body in her work. Though Weiss has a
prevalent theme of feminism, she is not actively trying to convey a
message. Rather, she wants each piece to
provoke emotions in the viewer that are relevant to their own lives.
I like Marilyn Weiss’s use of mixed
media within her artworks. I especially
enjoy the combination of painting or printmaking with the found objects. I was inspired when I read her artist
statement, because she said she only uses objects that she feels a connection
to, and she lets the media do all the work.
I like that she is a believer in “happy accidents”, and her work
reflects this humorous take on art while still holding a lot of meaning. It is evident that she has found a connection
to her artwork through the labor of finding objects.
